Committees

Education Committee

The Education Committee is our largest group and has a particularly challenging (yet very rewarding) task:  to provide interesting and valuable educational programs to meet the diverse needs and experience levels of our membership. Education takes place in a number of formats:  monthly luncheon programs, the semi-annual leadership and winter conference programs and occasional social events. The Education Committee is responsible for identifying topics, giving careful consideration to ALA’s core competencies for legal administrators. The committee seeks quality local and national speakers, finds an appropriate venue, prepares the flyer, tracks attendance and has oversight responsibility for the session. 

The chapter hosts monthly luncheon programs throughout the year in varying locations. Luncheon meetings provide an opportunity to network with each other and the sponsoring Business Partners, followed by a program. Topics are selected for their importance to legal administrators and on occasion roundtable or panel discussions on topics of mutual interest are held in place of guest speakers.

Membership Committee

The strength of the Charlotte Chapter rests solely on our membership. The ongoing success of the Chapter is assured when new members with new ideas and energy join and participate. The primary goal of the Membership Committee is to reach those individuals within our profession who will benefit from membership in ALA and the Charlotte Chapter. This committee is charged with the task of recruiting new members from law firms, corporate legal departments, schools, government agencies and bar associations. The committee is driven to engage our existing, less involved, members and to bring awareness to them of the value of their investment in our chapter membership. Our goal is for our members to have ongoing, meaningful, involvement in chapter sponsored events, education programs and social networking opportunities.

Communications Committee

The Chapter hosts a website and provides various communications to its members via email.  We also post on social media to keep members in the loop. If you are great at website administration and/or social media and would be interested in helping out (or would like to help locate or write educational articles and member updates for the Chapter), please contact the Chair regarding participation on the Communications Committee.

Community Service

The Community Services Committee selects organizations within our local community to be the beneficiaries of our volunteer and fund raising efforts. We look for groups whose missions are to provide services to our many neighbors in need. We then coordinate volunteer efforts and hold fundraisers on behalf of the organizations. All of our efforts are assisted and supported by our Chapter members, Sponsor Partners, families and friends.

Salary Survey Committee

This committee is responsible for determining the information to be collected in the Charlotte Chapter ALA annual Salary Survey. The committee works with a third party company to create and distribute the survey document and publish the results. Members of this committee will create marketing material to advertise the survey to Charlotte Chapter members and the community at large. The chair of this committee is responsible for coordinating the collection of information, distribution of the results and reconciling payments for purchases according to the timeline set by the Board of Directors each year.  

Business Partner Relations Committee

The Charlotte Chapter offers a sponsorship program to provide vendor business partners with an opportunity to support the chapter and its educational goals through financial support, advertising in the chapter newsletter and donating services. The Committee is responsible for planning and executing the Business Partner Sponsorship Program, cultivating relationships with our Business Partners and educating Chapter members on the value vendors can add to Chapter members’ organizations. The Business Partner Committee works closely with sponsors to select events and opportunities consistent with their needs for appropriate recognition among our members for the sponsors’ contributions.  We encourage our members to consider our sponsors when making purchasing decisions. Many of our programs would not be possible without the financial support of sponsors.
